Getting around Labuan Bajo is relatively easy. Scooters are widely available for rent and are a convenient option for exploring the town and surrounding areas. For greater comfort, cars with private drivers can also be arranged for half-day or full-day trips.

Within the town centre, many restaurants, cafés, shops and the harbour are within walking distance, although Labuan Bajo is quite hilly. Taxis and local transport are also readily available for short journeys.

The weather in Labuan Bajo and Komodo National Park has two distinct seasons: the wet season, typically from December to March, and the dry season, from April to November. Diving is possible throughout most of the year, although conditions and visibility vary between the north, central and southern areas of the National Park.

Manta rays can be encountered year-round in Komodo, with regular sightings at famous dive sites such as Manta Point and Mawan. The wet season, particularly from January to March, often provides some of the best opportunities for manta encounters, when larger numbers may gather to feed and visit cleaning stations.

Komodo’s waters are incredibly rich throughout the year, with reef sharks, turtles, eagle rays, schooling fish and an exceptional diversity of tropical marine life making every season rewarding for divers.

The Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) is the local currency. Labuan Bajo has numerous ATMs, banks and money changers, particularly around the town centre. Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in hotels, dive centres and larger restaurants, although we recommend carrying some cash for smaller shops and local businesses.

Local SIM cards are easy to purchase, with Telkomsel and XL among the main operators providing mobile internet coverage in Labuan Bajo. Keep in mind that the signal can become limited once travelling by boat into Komodo National Park.

Wi-Fi is widely available in most hotels, restaurants and cafés throughout Labuan Bajo, and of course at Legend Diving.
